Superintendent's Messages
Special Message from the Superintendent - Posted 1/19/2010
Haitian Earthquake Relief Dear NLMUSD Family, Our hearts and prayers go out to anyone in our district that may have been affected by the tragic earthquake in Haiti as well the people of Haiti. As your Superintendent, I encourage everyone who can, to contribute to the relief effort. The relief workers in Haiti report that half of the earthquake’s victims are children. They are the most vulnerable in any natural disaster and need our help most of all. You can also help the victims of Haiti by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide relief and long-term support through supplies, and other support to help those in need. Donations to the International Response Fund can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at www.redcross.org. On January 18th, we both observe and remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was dedicated to the teaching of social justice and nonviolence. In the spirit of his message of “service to one another,” I know we will address the most pressing needs of the people of Haiti. As he said, “what affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” Sincerely, Dr. Ruth Perez |
